The rewards of being creative
07 September 2010 - Practical and very satisfying. That's how Ingrid Power (42) describes her newfound hobby of pottery. She took it up just over a year ago, shortly after moving to the US. The pottery classes that Ingrid attends have proven to be a good way for finding out more about her current location.
Friends
“My pottery teacher and I have become close friends,” Ingrid explains. “She is a local New Yorker and it is always interesting to talk to her. She helps me gain more of an insight into local issues, for example.”
Smile
“Besides being fun, pottery is also a very practical hobby,” Ingrid continues. “During the past year, I’ve made various pieces like fruit bowls, salad bowls, chopstick rests and espresso mugs. I make them both for use at home and, of course, as little gifts for friends. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction and puts a big smile on my face when someone admires something without knowing that I made it!”
