Do you already own an iPad?

26 August 2010 - About 7 percent of the readers of Global Connection are the proud owners of an iPad. Another 7 percent are thinking of buying one. Those are the results of a survey we did a couple of months ago.

If we were to update this survey it is a safe bet that both figures will have gone up. There are at least two reasons for this assumption.

First of all the iPad is a bigger success than even Apple’s Steve Jobs can have imagined in his wildest dreams. The latest figures made public showed, that by the end of July a whopping three million iPads were sold! And secondly, when we did our survey the iPad was not yet for sale in most European countries. It is now and seeing it in a store or, even worse, in the hands of friend or colleague, is for many people a very convincing reason to want to own one too.

One of them is that the iPad is not the e-reader it was set out to be, because it’s very hard to read in the sunshine (regular e-readers do not have that problem).

So, are you going to buy an iPad too? You could. But then again, many competitors of Apple will hit the market shortly with tablets that might be more to your liking than the iPad. And of course, it’s very, very likely that within a few months Apple will introduce a newer version of the iPad. An even sexier one. Faster. With a larger memory. And perhaps (according to a persistent rumour on the internet) with the possibility to use a printer…
